Condolences

Condolence From: Laurie Alper
Condolence: Dr. Blake was my cataloging professor at Queens College many years ago. He was kind, funny, and oh so smart. His lectures were fascinating, entertaining, and, of course, educational. I learned so much from him and enjoyed his classes so much that I took additional cataloging classes from him, even though I didn't expect to become a cataloger. After I obtained my MLS, I asked him and some other professors to write recommendations for me, and I still have them. He gave me a beautiful, generous, glowing recommendation that shows his generosity and thoughtfulness as much as it says anything about me.
I was telling some colleagues today about the wonderful professor I had when I was in school and decided to search for information on what he is doing now. I'm so sorry to hear about his death and so sorry for your loss.

Condolence: A kind and gentle soul, sincere and genuine in every way, Dr. Blake represented the quintessential neighbor next door you would gladly go to for a chat, a laugh, and an assured touch of humanity anytime and feel you never imposed. He gave with such grace and joy and mentored so intrusively. He was human to the core, intellectual but unassuming, and kind without limits. I will surely miss him and he made a world of difference in the life of a Ghanaian student he mentored selflessly till his passing moments. Thank you to his family for sharing the man; thank God he lived among us! May he truly rest in peace and may his family be eternally blessed.

Condolence: Although I never had a class with Dr. Blake, I remember him fondly. He was always willing and available to advise students and address their concerns and questions. I know many benefited from his time and experience; certainly, I gained a lot from his presence and influence on the GSLIS program. I am so sorry for the loss of this great man and may his memory be a blessing always.

Condolence: Virgil was and continues to be a shining example of what librarians encompass each day. My sympathies to the family. To us, his colleague and friend, lets continue to his memory in what we do each day. Besides being an excellent librarian, Virgil was extremely human to a fault. He never forgot the human condition and thrived on being a good example. I, like many here, will miss our friend and colleague.
