Here at Spezzi & Maliszewski Funeral Homes, we believe that all who have served in the Armed Forces deserve the same honor and respect they showed to us while serving in the Miliary. To pay honor to our fallen heroes, Spezzi & Maliszewski Funeral Homes will assists families with their requests for Veterans burial benefits to those eligible.

    We will assist with handling veteran service details for your family. For more information you may contact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at (800) 827-1000.
    Available veteran benefits:

    • Inscribed cemetery marker
    • U.S. flag
    • Gun salute
    • Transportation costs (some or all of the cost) if the veteran dies while under the care of the V.A.
    • Interment in a national or state veterans cemetery

    Who is eligible?

    Military members on active duty, Military retirees, members and former members of the Selected Reserve, eligible U.S. veterans of any war, other U.S. veterans who served at least one term of enlistment and separated under conditions other than dishonorable.

    How do I make advance arrangements?

    Send a copy of your discharge papers (DD214) that we will keep in our permanent files. If you wish, call us and we will handle all details over the phone. If you don’t have your discharge papers, information on obtaining this New Paragraph

    What are veterans honor services?

    Retired Military

    Military honors are available to all eligible veterans regardless of rank or location of burial. If you are retired military with 20 years or more of service, we will call and request an active duty honor guard from your branch of service. The ceremony may consist of a Chaplain to speak, flag folding and presentation to next of kin, rifle salute and the playing of TAPS. 

    Honorably Discharged Veterans with less than 20 years

    We contact the applicable branch of service and local veterans groups for Military Honors requests. If your family member was a member of the American Legion or VFW we can also contact them for military honors. 
    The ceremony may consist of honor guard rifle salute, folding the flag, presentation to the next of kin, and the playing of TAPS.

    What are options for Veteran cemeteries?

    All veterans, and possibly their spouses and dependent children, are entitled to free cemetery spaces, grave opening/closing, grave liner and headstone at a VA cemetery. A Member of our Care Team will work with you to secure all available options.
