Condolence From: Jaime Koval
Condolence: Once upon a time in the late 70s there were two couples newly married with bundles of joy on the way the first couple the Boyd’s were in great anticipation of there first born a little girl. The second couple the Koval’s were on baby number two also a little girl. As both families would be growing they needed a place to settle down and decided to buy Cape Cods on a quiet street in a little town called South Amboy. The two little girls were born within weeks of each other happy as these couples were enjoying watching their little girls grow up they decided it was time to have another and with in two years both couples had bouncing baby boys. Little did they know that once this foursome met , a friendship like no other would be forged in that little town on that quiet street called Grover Avenue. Now, don’t be fooled while these proud parents looked upon the cherub faced son they named Michael and the “milk mans son” they named Jon the boys became a duo who could rival Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid. These two didn’t wait until their teens to show everyone what they were made of , oohhhh no it was a meer five years old that these guys showed their moxie and the first time the police curser visited our quiet little neighborhood. The cops knocked on the Boyd’s door first , they lived at the top of the street. K Boyd opened and asked what he wanted , the police officer being in his confident ready to apprehend the criminal mode asked her to please surrender a Michael Boyd and Jon Koval as she moved aside to oblige there standing behind her is this little huge brown eyed boy smiling widely and the blonde haired Tasmanian devil. He was stunned and asked “ummmm ma’am , I need to speak with Michael and Jon” again she said to him , yes here they are. In utter disbelief he walked off the porch scratching his head. That was the first and not the last time the police curser visited our now rambunctious neighborhood. Over the years these guys got into more trouble than raccoons picking through garbage. They did everything from baseball to ice skating together. Mr. Boyd even coached The little league. At one game they were getting ready to start and the empire screams to Mr. Boyd “where’s your outfielder we gotta get the game going!” Mr. Boyd looks over and there’s Jon peeing over the fence in right field, all he could do was shake his head and laugh. I’m sure you’re wondering what happened to the two sisters. Ahhh we watched from the side as these two masterminds planned their next caper. We’d laugh like hyenas at the things they came up with. Sometimes we would warn them good- on the trouble they were gonna get into , sometimes we’d egg them on because it’d keep our parents heat off us. Alas every time they would run to us to hide them or help them clean up whatever mess they had gotten in and every time we would because they were our little brothers and two of greatest friends ever put on this earth. The bonds were deep, unbreakable and couldn’t be understood by a single person on the outside of what would later be called the “Kovoyds”. We could go on for days with all the shenanigans but the heart and soul of this group was Michael. He knew things about you that you yourself didn’t see right away. When he took you in, he loved unconditionally and with the fiercest loyalty. Judgment wasn’t in Michaels vocabulary and let it be a fool who judged you or tried to hurt you in front of him. You’d see a blind warrior coming to your defense before the foe could make the first strike. The devilish twinkle in his eye and mischievous smile that would wash over his handsome face could drive the heaviest of worries far from your mind. Over the years the kovoyds have said goodbye to parents, grandparents and friends. We’ve seen marriages, divorces , welcomed our babies into the world. We’ve laughed until we cried and cried until we laughed to the ups and downs of life and we did it together, never falling off from those early days on Grover Ave. How do you say goodbye to him ? Who can even answer that question, I can’t , I won’t because he will never be far from my heart or my thoughts. Michael was my friend, my brother from a different mother. We will tell the stories of your great days for years to come. You will never be forgotten. I will cherish the time I had with you always. Love you to heavens and back. My heart is heavy now a hollowness that only Sheila and my brother Jon can fill with our memories of you. You are a legend among men. Rest In Peace sweet Michael.
