Richard S. Ritter age 85 years of South River passed away peacefully on Sunday February 14, 2016, at his daughter’s home in Toms River with his loving and devoted daughters at his side. Born in South Amboy he has resided in South River for the past 60 years. Before his retirement he was employed by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 in Springfield as a heavy equipment operator and also was employed as a mechanic and truck driver for Perth Amboy Fuel & Oil. Mr. Ritter proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corp, was a member of South River American Legion Post 214, Old Bridge V.F.W. Post 7508 and a member of Remedy Church of Toms River.

He is predeceased by his wife Theresa Quinlan Ritter in 2006, his daughter Ruth Ann Ritter in 1985, his grandson Gregory Ritter, and his brothers Robert Ritter who died at Pearl Harbor and David Ritter who died in January 2016.

Surviving are his children and their spouses Robin Massaro of South River, Susan & Ralph Click of Toms River and Donna & Dennis Kish of East Brunswick, his grandchildren Richard, Joey-Lee, Eric, Dawn, Kaytlyn and Konnor, 8 great grandchildren and his great grand-dogs Ellie, Lucas and Emma.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 7pm at the Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Avenue South River with private cremation to follow.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. Members of American Legion Post 214 will hold military services Wednesday 6pm and members of VFW Post 7508 at 6:30pm at the funeral home. A celebration for Richard will take place at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in East Brunswick, NJ off Old Bridge Turnpike at 11am on Saturday March 19, 2016.
