My Aunt Mary

For me to have had Aunt Mary in my life has allowed me to be twice-blessed. She was my first cousin through my Aunt Tina, my father's sister. Then she became my aunt when she married my mother's brother, Louis. As far as I can remember, she was a God-fearing, Holy Spirit filled woman who loved and prayed for people. Her generosity and warmth were surpassed only by her hospitality. She loved company and entertaining guests. Her cooking skills few could rival - a talent she inherited from her mother. In the midst of confusion, she would decide to bake a cake; and what a baker she was! When people were invited to Aunt Mary's house, they were guaranteed a feast! She worked with Uncle Lou at their Italian Deli (Salumeria) in Borough Park, Brooklyn. She raised two daughters. She loved children and taught Sunday School. She was a prayer warrior. When dinners were held at Aunt Tina's and Uncle Mike's house, Aunt Mary and Uncle Lou would gather by the upright piano and sing old-time songs; how they loved to sing, and what music they made together! A woman of virtue (Proverbs 31), kind-hearted, remembering holidays and birthdays with thoughtful gestures and encouraging words. These things remind me of Aunt Mary. Will I miss her, her phone calls, her cards, her thoughtfulness and love? Yes! In reality, those who are born again never die; they leave us for a while but live in our hearts until our reunion in Heaven. So, until we meet again with all those who have gone before, I will embrace the treasured memories that sustain, and rejoice in the glorious hope that I will see her and all my loved ones, as we reunite in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Then we will be together forever. Rosemarie Greco Mancuso
