Joseph Hogan, age 65 of the Parlin section of Sayreville passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy with his loving and devoted family at his side. Born in Staten Island, New York he had resided in South Amboy before moving to Parlin 40 years ago. Before his retirement in 2001 he was employed by the Borough of Sayreville Police Department as a highly decorated patrolman for 16 years, and prior to that as a supervisor for E. I. DuPont F & F where he worked for 15 years. Joseph was a member of Sayreville PBA 98, N.J. State PBA 600 Retired Police Association, N.J. Police Honor Legion, a Blue Badge Award Recipient of the 200 Club and a social member of the Mechanicsville Fire Department. Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam war, was a member of the 82nd Airborne Association, American Legion Post 62 in South Amboy and Sayreville Knights of Columbus Council 2061. He was a communicant of Saint Stanislaus Kostka R. C. Church in Sayreville.

He is predeceased by his father James Hogan, and his brothers James Hogan Jr. and Peter Hogan. Surviving are his wife of 43 years Denice Matura Hogan, his children and their spouses Christy & Michael Stoehr of Morgan, and Marc & Vanessa Hogan of Sayreville, his grandchildren Ben Stoehr, Tessa Stoehr and Keira Hogan and his mother Marie Gallagher Hogan of Whiting.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Sunday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. The following groups will hold services Sunday at the funeral home: Sayreville PBA 98 will stand honor guard and hold services 8pm, American Legion Post 211 will hold military services Sunday 7:15pm, Sayreville K of C 2061 8:30pm.

Funeral services will be held Monday 9:15am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin followed by a 10am mass at Saint Stanislaus Kostka R. C. Church in Sayreville with entombment to follow at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Joseph’s name be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Make A Wish Foundation.
