John M. “Mike” Serpico, age 87 of Sayreville, passed away Sunday October 13, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Sayreville for the past 27 years. Before his retirement in 1980, Mike was a Fire Fighter with the Jersey City Fire Department for 30 years. He was a US Marine Corp Veteran of WWII.
He is predeceased by his sister, Grace Scerbo.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Eileen Searls, his children and their spouses, Joanne and Ron Mieszkowski of East Brunswick, Michael and Kathleen of Sayreville, Mary Serpico of Parlin, Patrick and Joanne of East Brunswick, his grandchildren John Mieszkowski, Michael, Thomas, Jessica, Patrick, Erin and Caroline Serpico and his sister Anne Drago of Wayne.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 9am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane Parlin, with a 9:30am Mass to follow at Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Sayreville. Burial will take place at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 4pm to 8pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mike’s name be made to Calvary Tabernacle Project Hope, 69 Myrtle Ave, Cranford, NJ 07016 or to the charity of your choice.
