John R. Norek, age 67 of Aberdeen, passed away Thursday February 27th 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway. Born in Perth Amboy, John had resided in Aberdeen for the past 35 years. John was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering (NJIT) and received his Masters degree from Monmouth University. He was an engineer with AJ Celiano in Cranford for many years. John was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. John was a former basketball coach at St. Mary’s in South Amboy for 10 years, proudly coaching his three sons.
He is predeceased by his parents John P. and Jean Norek.
Surviving are his loving wife of 41 years, the former Karen Delaney, his children Sean and his wife Amanda of Madison, Aubrey Minor and her husband John of Freehold, Brendan and his fiancé Danielle Gaffney of Red Bank, Kyle of Aberdeen, his cherished grandsons Jack and Liam Minor, Emmet and Owen Norek and 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday 8:45am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin with a 9:30am funeral mass to follow at St. Mary’s RC Church in South Amboy. A private cremation will follow.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm.
