Hedwig Martha Roma, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and sister, age 81 of Sayreville passed away Sunday March 30th 2014 at her home. Born in Jersey City she had resided in Sayreville for the past 40 years. Before her retirement she was employed as the Nursery Supervisor for The Club At Woodbridge for 19 years. Mrs. Roma was a member of the Sayreville Seniors, was a Girl Scout Leader and she was a former Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher at Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Sayreville. “Hedy” loved children, chocolate layer cake and Mr. Dee’s Hotdogs.

She is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mary Grutkowski, her husband Anthony and her son Anthony. Surviving are her daughters Carolyn Lee of Sayreville, Hedwig Roma and her husband Antonio Gonzalez of Manhattan, and Mary Roma and her husband Rene Ardila of Manhattan, her granddaughter Francesca Lee of Sayreville, her sister Pauline Del Greco of Woodbridge and her sister-in-law Helene Grutkowski of Secaucus.

Funeral services will be held 9am Thursday at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with burial to follow at St John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, NY.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Hedwig’s name to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
