Obituary for Ellwood Boller Jacoby

Ellwood Boller Jacoby
Tinton Falls
Ellwood Boller Jacoby, age 90, of Tinton Falls, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.
Ellwood was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA where he was married and began to raise his own family. He was Superintendent of Schools for the Chatham Township School District, NJ, 1966-1991 and prior to his retirement was Superintendent of Schools for the Wyoming Valley West School District, PA 1981-1991.
Ellwood graduated from Central HS in Philadelphia and received 3 degrees – Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate of Education – from the University of Pennsylvania. Ellwood was also a proud Veteran of the US Army, having served as Lieutenant 1st Class and acting Captain during the Korean War. He was always one of the most active members of his community as a Presbyterian Church Elder, and President of each of the Summit Old Guard, Chatham Rotary, and Wyoming Valley Red Cross. Ellwood was also an accomplished world traveler, having visited all 7 continents, and, coincidentally, was born on the same day that “Steamboat Willie,” aka Mickey Mouse, was introduced to the world. His energy and love will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ellwood is predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Janice Bette (Robinson), his parents Daniel Snyder, III & Helen Natalie Jacoby, and his brother Daniel Snyder Jacoby, IV. Surviving are his 2 loving daughters and their spouses Lynn & Victor Vinegra of Garwood, and Joan & Michael Quinlan of Cranford; his dear grandchildren Juliet & Mark Vinegra, and Fiona & Siobhan Quinlan; his brother Robert Donald Jacoby and wife Emma of PA; as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 13 at 11am at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, 140 Mountain Avenue, Westfield, NJ, with a burial of cremated remains to follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ellwood’s name to either The Presbyterian Church in Westfield at http://www.westfieldpc.org/ or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at https://www.vfw.org/.
