Parlin
Edwin John Meier age 89 of the Parlin section of Sayreville passed away peacefully on Thursday April 4, 2013 at his home with his loving family at his side. Born in Brooklyn, New York he has resided in Parlin for the past 45 years. Before his retirement in 1974 he was employed as a bus driver for the City of New York for 23 years and after that as a custodian for P.N.C. Bank in South River for 10 years retiring in 1984. Mr. Meier was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, a member of Sayreville American Legion post 211 and Sayreville Knights of Columbus Council 2061. Edwin was a communicant of Sacred Heart R. C. Church in South Amboy.

He is predeceased by his wife Maryann Ray Meier in 1984, his son in laws Thomas Baist & Robert Bender, his parents William & Lucy Meier and his sister Marion Fergurson. Surviving are his children Susan Baist of Sayreville, Kathleen Bender of Brick, Edwin K. Meier and his wife Jacqueline of Brick, Elizabeth Meier of Berkley Township, Paul Meier of Howell and Michael Meier of Parlin, his grandchildren Jessica, Christopher, Kelly, Adam, Nicholas Christian, Dylan, Michael, Brandon, Jonathan, Thomas and Caroline, his sister Francis Curley, his son in law Michael Aversa and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday 9am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin followed by a 9:30am mass at Sacred Heart R. C. Church in South Amboy with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Sunday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. In Lieu of flowers donations in Edwin’s name may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, N.Y.
