Betty Jane Smith Cassidy, age 81 of Old Bridge, passed away Thursday October 8, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Irvington, she had resided in Sayreville for 27 years before moving to Old Bridge 35 years ago. Before her retirement in 2006, Betty Jane worked for the Sayreville Board of Education as a school bus driver for 32 years. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sayreville where she was also a church Elder. Betty Jane lovingly taught Sunday school at the church and was an avid knitter and crocheter. She will forever be remembered for her Christmas stockings that she knitted for her entire family and all the bus drivers she worked with.
She is predeceased by her parents Robert and Mildred Smith and her brother Kenneth Smith.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years James, her children and their spouses Thomas and Mary-Ann, Nancy Gandero, Donna and John Monaco, James and Donna all of Sayreville, her grandchildren Christine Utter, Michele Maher, Jason Stine, Jeffrey Stine, Thomas Cassidy, Kenny Stine, Nikki Inskeep, John Monaco, Patrick Monaco, James Cassidy, Christopher Cassidy and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday 9:30am at the First Presbyterian Church of Sayreville with a burial to follow at Rest Land Memorial Park in East Hanover.
Calling hours at the Maliszewski Memorial Home 121 Main Street Sayreville will be held Sunday from 3pm to 7pm.
In lieu of donations, the family requests that donations in Betty Jane’s name be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Sayreville 172 Main Street Sayreville, NJ 08872.
