Albert L. “Big Al” McLaughlin, age 84 of Parlin, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, NY as the only child of Pearl McLaughlin (Bzdewka) and Burt McLaughlin, he had lived in Parlin for the past 50 years. He was a proud alum of Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn and after began working for Greyhound Bus Lines where he stayed for 47 years, eventually becoming regional Vice President. He moved to Parlin in 1966 and was a communicant of St. Bernadette’s RC Church. Al was a member of the St. Bernadette’s Holy Name Society, a founding member and Past Grand Knight, past faithful navigator and former District Deputy of the St. Bernadette’s Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion, Catholic War Veterans, as well as a proud Veteran of the US Army, having served in the Korean War. “Big Al” never had a lazy day in his life.
He is survived by his loving Wife of 58 years, Anne (Klimkowski) of Parlin, his sons and their spouses Kenneth and Mary of Hamilton, Kevin and Molly of Hampton, and Brian and Monica of Marlboro; his 5 beloved grandchildren Elizabeth and her husband Tim, Kenneth, Jr., Katherine, Kevin & Madeline; and his adoring great-grandchildren Hunter, Sarah, Kenneth III, & Cameron. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday 8:45am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin, with a 9:30am funeral mass at St. Bernadette’s RC Church in Parlin. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Parlin.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 2pm to 4pm & 6pm to 8pm.
