About seven weeks ago; I was driving and drove past Joe. As soon as I could; I turned around and pulled up and screamed, "Hey, You, Get In", He ran up to the door smiling and jumped in my car. We had not seen each other in years, but, I was instantly happy to see my old high school friend from St. Mary's. I drove him to his friends house and we caught up on the way. He told me he just moved back to town and got a new job. He thanked me for never judging him in his hardships. He told me he was not in bands anymore but, that he writes a lot of poetry and I told him when the studio is up and running; I would record him reading his poems spoken word style. He seemed up for the idea. A week later Ronnie and I performed an Acoustic set. Joe came to that show, he walked in with a big smile and said he walked from his house which was miles away. We ended up closing the place out, we stayed and danced, skanked and slow danced. I felt like I was sixteen again; the place was not that packed. He helped us breakdown and we dropped him off at home. Who would have known he would pass away some weeks later. He seemed so happy and I am not really sure why I ran into him after so many years or why he came to my show and why it ended up being a night for him to enjoy life but, I am happy that it did. Our last memory together is happy; you were able to be free and we danced. Big Joe...I love you brother! Life is precious. Don't take anyone for granted.
