Obituary for William A Danku

William Danku, Manchester, NJ (formerly of Sayreville)
May 4, 1946 – May 3, 2022
William Danku, 75, who grew up in the Melrose section of Sayreville, passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Bill graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the 30th Infantry (Old Hickory) during the Vietnam conflict. Bill worked for NL Industries for 8 years. In 1977, he was hired by the Borough of Sayreville as a police officer in the patrol division, after attending the Union County Police Academy with 6 others who became known as the “Sayreville Seven”. During his tenure with the Sayreville PD he received 2 awards for life saving and retired after 30 years of service. He is a life member of PBA Local 98 and a silver card holder. He is also a life member of the NJ State Retired Police and Fire Association, Inc., Local 9. Bill was additionally a member of the Melrose Hose Company for 12 years and is a member of the NJ Exempt Firemen’s Association. Bill was also a member of American Legion Post 211 in Sayreville.
He loved spending weekends with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching horror films with his daughter Amber. At home, his white cat, Pinot-Grigio, was always at his side. Bill was good at telling stories and making everyone laugh and loved to reminisce about old times. Bill also loved going to classic car shows in his friend Carl’s ’67 red GTO, especially “Cops and Rodders” in North Brunswick NJ.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Frank and Helen Danku, his first wife Betty Lou Danku, his brother Jerry Danku, and his sister Frances Sedlack.
Surviving are his wife Claudia Danku of Manchester, his daughters Jill Ann Caffrey and her husband Pat, Amber Lyn Danku and her partner Andrew Schreck, both of Sayreville and his cherished grandchildren Elizabeth Lou and Leo William. He is also survived by his brother
Dennis Danku and his wife Diane and a sister Debra Danku and his brother-in-law and best friend Thomas Kosmoski and his wife Joyce of Harrington, Delaware and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 4pm to 8pm at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin.
