Obituary for Virgil Richard "Richie " Luecke

Spotswood
Virgil Richard Luecke, age 76, of Spotswood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Manhattan, Richie lived in Bronx, New York, and then moved to Sayreville. Richie later moved to Spotswood, where he raised his family and he lived most of his life. After attending Sayreville High School, he went to work for Bristol-Myers Squibb, in New Brunswick, serving in many capacities, most recently as a lab technician. Mr. Luecke was a member of the BMS Retirement Club as well as the Quarter Century Club. When he wasn't working, Rich would spend time fishing, watching drag racing at Raceway Park, building model airplanes, hunting, and taking photographs. However, his greatest love was found with all things having to do with lighthouses. He traveled to Nova Scotia and all over the US finding new lighthouses to see. Richie was a special man who will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Richie is predeceased by his parents Virgil and Florence Luecke, his son Gerald, and his brother David. Surviving is his beloved wife Sheila (Sullivan) Luecke of Spotswood; his children Sheila and husband Rick Daley of S. Brunswick, his son Dan Luecke of Old Bridge, and his sons Rich and Doug of Spotswood; his grandchildren Alicia Luecke-Daley of S. Brunswick, Richard Daley of S. Brunswick, and Megan Daley of Linden; one great-granddaughter; his 2 sisters Amy and her husband Joseph Cuneo of Belvidere, and Dr. Cynthia Pope of Stewartsville; his sisters-in-law Denise Mastorio of Spotswood and Frances Kosanovich of Parlin; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10am on Monday at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with burial to follow at Christ Church Cemetery in South Amboy.
