Obituary for Stephen E Wisniewski

Stephen E. Wisniewski, age 77 of Matawan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Perth Amboy, he had lived in Sayreville, South Amboy and North Carolina, before moving back to New Jersey last year. Before his retirement, Steve worked as a truck driver with Roadway Express in East Brunswick for many years. He was a proud US Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving two tours as a Green Beret for the 5th Special Forces Mountain Division, attached to the 101st Airborne. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star, two Silver Stars and six Purple Hearts. Steve was an avid tournament fisherman and spent many years on the Bass Masters Pro Circuit. In 1973 he started the first bass club in NJ, the Spruce Run Bass Masters. He was a lifetime member of the of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. He was an MLF All American Angler in 1997 and won countless tournaments locally and nationally.

He is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Katherine Wisniewski. Surviving are his forever love, Evelyn Wisniewski, his loving children Brian Wisniewski and his girlfriend Jessica Foley, Debra Leonard and her husband Dennis, Corey Wisniewski and his wife Meghan, his beloved grandchildren Christie, Justin and his girlfriend Deborah Cicchino, Ryan, DJ, Shane and Riley, his cherished great-granddaughter Maisie, his sister Linda Salge and her husband Ed, his brothers Robert and Gerald Wisniewski, his nieces Lauren and Robin, and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be Friday at 9:15am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin, with a 10:00am Mass at Sacred Heart RC Church in South Amboy. A private cremation will follow.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
