Obituary for Sophie Teresa Schultz

Sophie T. Schultz, 96, of East Brunswick, passed away on the 23rd day of March 2023. Sophie was born in South River, NJ to Alexander and Stefanie Milek. After high school, she worked as a seamstress in Dora’s Dress Shop in South River. She married George Schultz of Highland Park and made E. Brunswick her home for 70 years, living in the same house that she and her husband built. They say you are born into your family and pick your friends. Sophie chose her family as friends. She was a supportive and caring wife, mother, and grandmother; always there when family needed her and willing to sacrifice her own well-being for others. The doors to her home were always open and over the decades she gave many family members a place to stay. Sophie worked part-time for some years at Building Services Corporation providing cleaning services to the executives at Personal Products Corporation, then located in N. Brunswick. She was a fantastic cook and the family always looked forward at gatherings to her cooking especially her Polish pierogies, kielbasa, and other delicacies. Sophie was also an exceptional seamstress that can sew the most beautiful dresses. She enjoyed gardening, which complemented her cooking, and was an avid reader.

Sophie was predeceased by her parents, Alexander, and Stephanie (Turowski) Milek; her husband, George W. Schultz, seven of her siblings, and her son, Duane Schultz. She leaves behind to carry on her legacy her five children, Joyce York of Bricktown, Donna Moore of S. River, Mark Schultz and his wife, Deidre, of Oceanside, CA, Darlene Schultz of E. Brunswick, and Shawn Schultz of Johnstown, PA. Additionally, she had nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 8:30am from the M.A. Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave, South River, NJ with a celebration of catholic mass at 9am at St. Mary of Ostrabrama RC Church, 30 Jackson St, South River, NJ. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Brunswick.
