Obituary for Ruth P Grover (Maurer)

Ruth P. Grover (nee Maurer) - 76, of Sayreville, passed away on November 12, 2022.

Born in Queens, NY in 1946, she lived most of her life in Central, NJ -- moving to Old Bridge in 1961, Sayreville in 1972, Clearbrook in Monroe in 2005; and returning to Sayreville/South Amboy in 2017 to reside with her children.

Upon graduating from Jersey City State College in 1967 with a B.A. in Education, she taught in the Old Bridge School System until 1973. She re-entered education in 1982 and spent the remainder of her career at Our Lady of Victories in Sayreville, the majority teaching Middle School math and religious studies. A devout Catholic, she volunteered numerous hours throughout the years teaching CCD at various parishes and distributing Communion to homebound seniors. She also once served as OLV’s Director of Religious Education; joined friends in founding OLV’s Vacation Bible School; and for a time served as a trustee of the Sayreville Public Library. Most recently she was an active communicant at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in South Amboy.

She is predeceased by her parents Mary (Clarke) and Charles Maurer; and her brothers Charles and Kevin Maurer. She is survived by her children Ann Marie Carlton of Irvine, CA, Judith (John) Pitsios of South Amboy, and Robert K. Grover, Jr. of East Brunswick; her beloved grandsons; two sisters Ann “Nancy” Haberman of East Brunswick and Mary (James) Novak of Sayreville; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 17 at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin, NJ, at 8:30am with a Mass at 9:30 at St. Mary’s, South Amboy. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Parlin.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, November 16 from 4pm to 8pm.
