Obituary for Robert Joseph Renode Jr.

Robert Joseph Renode Jr, age 67, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the Venetian Care Center, South Amboy. Born in Brooklyn, Robert moved to Parlin in 1978. Mr. Renode was a proud Fire Patrolmen for the New York Fire Patrol for 27 years, where his brothers knew him as “The Rat”. Robert was a true patriot serving as a first responder at Ground Zero during the attacks on September 11, 2001. Due to injuries sustained from his heroic actions on 9-11, he was unable to continue working as a NY Fire Patrolmen. For many years, Bob showed great fight, conviction, and fortitude in his battle with these various health issues.

These health issues, however, are not what define him. Courage, sacrifice, leadership, and selflessness are some of the things that do. Bob was always good for a laugh, even when you did not want it. He will be remembered fondly for his love of reading, passion for history and spending time with his beloved grandchildren, who called him Pappy.

Robert is predeceased by his parents Grace and Robert Renode Sr, his sister Arlene Buckley, and his brother-in-law Thomas Sterner. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Deborah Renode, his daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Patrick Folts, his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Julie Ann Renode, his second mom Helen Cooper Renode, his grandchildren Samantha Hipper, Robbie Renode IV, Kayla Renode and Olivia Renode, his sisters Mary Renode and Joyce Sterner, his brother Kenneth Renode as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
