Obituary for Richard John Swan Sr.

Richard John   Swan Sr.
Richard Swan, age 79 of Sayreville, passed away Friday September 20, 2019 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Paterson, he had lived in Sayreville for the past 37 years. Before his retirement, Richard had worked as a bus driver for Suburban Trails in Monroe for over a decade. He was a proud US Army veteran that served for 29 years and a member of the Sayreville American Legion Post 211. Richard was a passionate lifelong supporter and participant in Drum Corp. He was a marching member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Drum and Bugle Corps in the early 60’s, became a member of the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps and then in the 1990’s rejoined the Corps as a member of the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Corps.
He is predeceased by his parents Edward and Phoebe, his sister Jeannie Reiter and his brother Edward.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 44 years Rose Haraldsen Swan, his sons Richard Jr and David, his granddaughters Amanda and Sarah, his grandson Lukas, his faithful companion Cooper, and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was a beloved member of his community and made a lasting impression on everybody he met. His humor and compassion will be missed by his many friends and acquaintances.
Calling hours at the Maliszewski Memorial Home 121 Main St. Sayreville, will be Wednesday from 5pm to 9pm.
A private cremation will follow.
