Rev. Edward H. Fernandez, Jr., age 69, of South Amboy passed away Saturday January 22, 2022, at Hudson Regional Hospital, Secaucus. Born May 28, 1952, to Edward & Daisy Fernandez in Bayonne N.J. he resided in Sayreville and South Amboy for most of his life. Rev. Fernandez was a graduate of Montclair State University and Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia PA. where he received his MA in Divinity. Edward started his ministry of 31 years, at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mt. Holly, from there to Faith Lutheran Church in Blakeslee, PA, Messiah Lutheran Church in Parlin, and then as Founder and Pastor of River of Life Christian Center in Sayreville before retiring in 2010. He also was employed as a Health Care Administrator for the City of Newark Affordable Health Care for several years.

Edward faithfully served the Lord as a teacher and counselor at many churches including Calvary Tabernacle. His calling to the ministry extended beyond the local church to mission work in Romania with Youth With A Mission. He was also a respected baseball umpire with the NJSIAA, as well as a dedicated member of the Camelback Ski Ranger Patrol.

He is predeceased by his father Edward H. Fernandez, Sr., and his brother Clifton Fernandez. Surviving is his wife of 46 years Lauretta O’Connor Fernandez, his children and their spouses Christopher & Susan Fernandez, Lauren & Matthew Ciciretti and Lisa & Len McLean, his loving grandchildren Erin, Emily, Allison, Jesse, Maxwell, Abigail, Kyleigh, Mark, Eric, Alyssa, Madison & Isabella, his mother Daisy Fernandez and his siblings and their spouses Kenneth & Elaine Fernandez and Patricia & William Driscoll.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Friday from 4pm to 8pm.
Please note that masks must be worn in the funeral home at all times, regardless of vaccination status.
Memorial services will be held Sunday 1:00 PM at Calvary Tabernacle, 69 Myrtle Street, Cranford, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Calvary Tabernacle to support their mission work.
