Obituary for Raul Aybar

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Raul Aybar. Raul passed away on March 11th, 2023, after battling a brief illness.

Raul was born on July 15, 1942, in Rincón, Puerto Rico. Life led him to New York City and eventually, Matawan, New Jersey, where he peacefully spent the last years of his life. Throughout all his travels, Raul was a proud Puerto Rican at heart.

While living in New York City, Raul met the love of his life, Alice, and they were married on April 20th, 1979. God blessed them with nearly 43 years of marriage, before he called Alice home to heaven on January 17th, 2022.

Raul started his career as a jeweller in New York City. Then, keeping up with the changing times, he began working as a track worker with Amtrak. It was with Amtrak that he worked a long, successful career, and was able to enjoy all the fruits of his labour in his retirement.

Raul was an outdoor person at heart. Some of his greatest adventures included boating on the ocean, pursuing his love for deep sea fishing. He loved traveling and felt great joy when taking his grandchildren on many summer road trips. The memories created on all these trips will last them a lifetime. While adventurous, Raul was also a simple man who enjoyed attending many BINGO events with this loving wife. Raul was known to be very reliable, always ready to reach out and help others in their times of need.

Raul will be remembered fondly and cherished in the hearts of his daughter, Theresa Rivera; his grandchildren William Rivera and his wife Kari Ruff-Rivera; Melanie Rivera and her fiancé Tomas Vargas; and Amanda Rivera and her faithful companion Apollo; his great grandchildren Jayden Vargas, Brooklynn Ruff-Rivera, and Savannah Vargas; his sisters Maria and Nora Aybar; and his many nieces and nephews.

Death leaves a void that can never be filled. The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind. When we remember Raul, may love be what we remember most.

A celebration of life will be held on April 4th, 2023 at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 109 Laurence Parkway in Laurence Harbor, New Jersey. The services will begin at 10:00AM, followed by interment at Frost Woods Memorial Park, 384 New Brunswick Ave, East Brunswick, New Jersey.
