Obituary for Peter A Anderson

Peter A. Anderson, 85, of Parlin passed away peacefully at home on December 29, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara, and their four children: David Anderson; Dawn Damato and her husband Robert; Karen Levenson and her husband Steven; and Michael Anderson and his wife Kimberly. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Alyson and Danielle Schapira; Andrea and Matthew Sissick; and Alexis, Gabrielle, and Sean Anderson.

Peter was a devoted math teacher and math/science department supervisor at Perth Amboy High School until his retirement in 2002. During his tenure at Perth Amboy, he also coached freshman football. Peter was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening. Actively involved in the community as a member and former president of the Sayreville Lions Club, he also served on the Sayreville Day Committee for a number of years. Pete enjoyed nothing more than sitting outside on his patio with a good book and a good cigar.

He and Barbara loved to travel and did so for many years. Their travels took them all over the world, but they most cherished their winters in Hawaii with their close-knit group of friends. He was proud of his many accomplishments in life, especially his family and for completing the NYC Marathon at age 50. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday 8:45am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Ln, Parlin with a 9:30 Funeral Mass at St. Bernadette’s Church in Parlin. A burial will follow at Christ Church Cemetery in South Amboy.
