Obituary for Palma Rose Caligiuri

Palma Rose Jentile was born on May 4th 1925 in Fort Lee New Jersey. She was one of 10 children. Her 4 brothers and 6 sisters, along with her mother Carmela, held close together, after her father’s young and untimely death, they weathered through the storm of the depression and war. In 1946 she met her future husband, Frank Caligiuri at a machine factory in New Jersey where they both worked. They Married in 1947 and with her husband, moved to Brooklyn New York into his family’s compound he shared with his mother and father along with his sisters and brother in laws. During the baby boomer years of the 1950’s her 3 children were born, Dominick , Frank and Donna. In the late 1950’s along with her husband and some help from his family opened and operated a very successful Italian restaurant for over 22 years. She juggled hard work while raising a family and seeing to all of her children’s needs no matter what the case was. She was truly the perfect mother. She unselfishly gave to all others in need, which would define her decent and loving character throughout her life. They both were much loved in their predominately Jewish community. After selling their business, she continued to work in retail where she quickly moved up the ladder due to her diligence and astounding work ethic. She eventually, with her husband moved to Old bridge New Jersey where her son Dominick and his family purchased a home with an extension house for them to live. Her daughter Donna also eventually relocated to Old bridge New Jersey as well. Her other son Franko after living in Europe moved to Manhattan, New York. Unfortunately, her husband Frank passed away not long after the move. Amazingly she once again went back to work in Fortunoffs in New Jersey, continuing to fulfill her need to be needed and productive. She also took her older sister who had lost her husband and daughter under her wing and always provided a loving family environment for her until she passed away. During that time as well she flew to Arizona to care for her sister in law Adeline who was ill with a terminal illness. When her son Dominick and his wife Alice decided to relocate to Florida she was left in the care of her daughter Donna and husband Peter Miller, who unselfishly cared for here and tended to her every need until her death on February 5, 2022. She died on the same day as her husband had years ago.

Our mother was a pillar of love and the most precious decency anyone could ever hope for, she is survived by her children, Dominick and Alice Caligiuri, Franko Caligiuri , Donna and Peter Miller, her brother Gus and sister Alma, Her grandchildren Anthony and Star Caligiuri, Nicholas and Rose Zampetis, and Lisa and Bobby Lucas, and her great grandchildren Isabella, Athena Rose, Lily Rose, Mateo and Ava. Our hearts and all those who came her way will always sorely miss her.
