Obituary for Nelly M Magas

Nelly M. Magas age 85, of South River passed away Monday February 8, 2021 at her home with her loving and devoted family at her side. Born in Rocha, Uruguay in 1935 to Ramon & Manuela De La Cruz she immigrated to the USA in 1973. In Uruguay Nelly was a member of the Brazilian Dance club and theater and was studying to be a surgical technician. Mrs. Magas worked for Algro Knitting Mills in Milltown for 11 years. She then worked for Hermann Miller in East Brunswick until her retirement. Nelly was an active member in the Uruguay Social Club in Newark as the public relations secretary organizing events for the club. Nelly enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and most importantly her family. Nelly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, friend and so much more. She will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.

She is predeceased by parents Ramon & Manuela Rodrguez as well as her grandson Vilmar E. Costa, her son in law Vilmar Costa and her sibling Feliciano, Jose Pedro, Miguel Angel, Luz Brenda & Candida Rose. Surviving is her adored husband of 37 years Eduardo Magas, her children & their spouses Shirley Costa, Imara Lopez and Eduardo & Pamela Lopez, her grandchildren & their spouses Maria Costa Posadas & Carlos, Brenda Costa & Edgar Morales, Stephanie Lopez & Shawn Jestine, Karina Valeria Lopez & Christopher Coale, Steven Lopez, and Kristina Lopez as well as her great-grandchildren Christopher Costa, Michelle Villa, Michael Costa, Joseph Costa, Cassandra Morales and Shayden Jestine and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Viewing times are Monday from 10am – 12pm with a 12pm prayer service at the funeral home, The Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Avenue, South River. A burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Brunswick. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, please note that a maximum of 50 visitors will be allowed in the funeral home at once and masks must be worn at all times.
