Obituary for Mary W. Vibronek (Wistuba)

West Orange

Mary Wistuba Vibronek, age 89, formerly of Sayreville, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, with her loving family by her side. Born and raised in Sayreville, Mary lived in the home her grandfather had built, nearly her entire life. Her community and her home meant the world to her. For a short time, Mary did also reside in Corpus Cristi, TX and Jacksonville, FL, while her husband Robert served in the US Navy. After Bob’s discharge from the service, they returned to Sayreville and started a family.

After raising her children, Mary returned to the workforce. She found her calling: working with children. “Miss Mary” would spend the next 25+ years working at the Oak Tree Village Nursery School in Parlin—a job she truly loved. After her retirement, Mary was bitten by the travel bug. She and friends would go on trips as much as possible, throughout the US and beyond. Her favorite trip was to the Canadian Rockies, and she often talked fondly of her travels and her travel buddies.

Mary was an avid reader and loved doing the daily crossword on her iPad every morning. She also loved to bake sweets (and eat them!). Mary never showed up to a party or gathering without one of her famous cheesecakes or carrot cakes. Over the years, word got around and she eventually was asked to bake them for a popular, local restaurant.

Mary also enjoyed sewing, often making her children’s clothes when they were young. She aspired to be as good a seamstress as her mother-in-law Ursuline—whom she adored—but she would be the first to tell you that she couldn’t hold a candle to her. That was typical Mary: sweet, humble and unassuming with a sprinkle of self-deprecating humor thrown in.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother and a loyal friend. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of having known her.

Mary is predeceased by her husband Robert Vibronek. Surviving are her children and their spouses Lisa Vibronek (Barbara) of West Orange and Darin Vibronek (Kim) of Sayreville.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10am on Tuesday at Washington Monumental Cemetery in South River. All services are under the direction of the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin.
