Obituary for Mary F Schmidt

Mary F. Schmidt, age 66, of Sayreville, peacefully passed away at Jersey Shore Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Mary volunteered as a CCD teacher for many years at Our Lady of Victories as well as a Latchkey teacher at the YMCA. Mary founded a Lyme Disease foundation in honor of her late daughter Mandy. Mary loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her grandson. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and so much more. She will be missed by her many dear family and friends and all who knew her.

Mary was a one of a kind and unique woman. She had a fiery and passionate spirit and her quick-witted and quirky sense of humor brought joy and laughter to all those whose life she touched. She was a was an avid dog lover and raised many pups throughout her life. Some of her most cherished moments of the last two years were spent training, playing with, and loving her twin pugs Fizzyl and Quee. Mary was uniquely creative and developed a passion for creating and painting outdoor garden statues, particularly gnomes. Many people wanted to buy her gnome statues and she had aspirations of starting a business and selling them. Mary loved children of all ages and was particularly skilled at teaching them with a relatable, eccentric, open hearted teaching style. She enjoyed collecting vintage toys in her free time and loved adding to her collections. Mary was a strong willed and resilient person and an extraordinary woman with a whimsical unmatched zest for life. She will be remembered with love and admiration by all that knew her.

Mary is predeceased by her parents Raymond & Wanda Ziobro as well as her daughter Mandy Schmidt, her sister Donna Zalewski, her brother-in-law Paul Zalewski, and her nephew Joseph Brignoli. Surviving is her beloved husband of 47 years Mark Schmidt; her adored son David Schmidt and his wife Karen, her much loved grandson Evan Schmidt, her sisters Anne Connelly and her husband Thomas, Theresa Coppola and her husband Patrick and her niece Tina Brignoli.

Funeral service will take place Saturday from 8am to 11am at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin, NJ with a prayer service to at 11am at the funeral home. A burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Parlin, NJ.
