Maria Abreu Castanheira Forneiro, age 84, of South River, peacefully passed away at her home in South River, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Varzea- Soajo, Arcos de Valdevez, Portugal to the late Joao Goncalves Castanheira and Teresa Dias Abreu, Maria lived there all her life until moving to South River 2 years ago to be with her children and family. She was a loving wife and mother who cared deeply for her family. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Maria is predeceased by her parents as well as her brother Manuel Abreu Castanheira. Surviving is her beloved husband Joao de Sousa Forneiro of South River; her loving children and their spouses Rosa and Jose Barros of South River and Antonio Forneiro and Linda Rodriguez-Forneiro of South River; her 2 dear grandsons John Barros and his wife Alexandria of South River and Kevin Barros of South River; her great-grandson John, Jr.; her brother Joao Castanheira of Parlin; and her nieces and their husbands Sandra and Mario Amaya of Parlin and Cristina and Edgar Bastos of South Amboy.
Calling hours are scheduled for Friday from 5pm to 8pm at the M.A. Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Avenue, South River, NJ with religious services at 7pm.
