Obituary for Maria Amelia Pires

Maria  Amelia   Pires
Maria Amelia Pires, age 63, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 25, 2019, surrounded by her loving friends and family. Born in Capeludos, Portugal, Amelia lived in both Sayreville and South River for many years before recently settling in Piscataway. Before her recent retirement, Maria was the owner and head chef of O Garrafao Restaurant in Sayreville. She welcomed and cared for everyone who came into the restaurant. She treated everyone like family anywhere she went. She loved spending time with her 2 beautiful grandchildren as well as tending to her flowers and garden. Her smile and laughter were contagious. She kept smiling through everything, even on her worst days. Because of her smile, she made life more beautiful. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Amelia is predeceased by her parents Antonio Augusto Rodrigues and Maria Da Conceicao Silva Portal and her sisters Maria da Conceição and Lurdes. Surviving are her beloved daughter Paula & husband Filipe Almeida; her sisters Agostina, Alzira, Fernanda, and Adelaide; her brother Manuel; her dear grandchildren Gianna & Elijah; her in-laws and dear friends Rosa Maria & Estevao; the family dog Duke & cat Bella; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, & nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30am on Tuesday, July 30th from the M.A. Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Avenue, South River with a 9am Mass at St. Mary of Ostrabrama RC Church. Burial will immediately follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Sayreville.

Calling hours at the funeral home will take place on Monday, July 29th from 4pm to 8pm.
