Obituary for Maria do Rosario Gomes
Maria do Rosario Gomes, age 53 of South River, New Jersey passed away on Tuesday October 29, 2019 at 11:30 AM at St. Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick from Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Maria had resided in New Jersey for the past 45 years. She moved to the United States at age 8 and quickly picked up English for she loved to learn.
For many years, Maria was employed as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in various schools in the Middlesex and Monmouth county areas. Having completed her Bachelor’s in Education while raising 2 children, she was determined to reach her passion and help support her family. She loved to learn and teaching came naturally to her. She spoke Portuguese, English, and Spanish to many students and treated them with a genuine, warm embrace. She spoke of Jesus to any and all, teaching them too about his great sacrifice and the grace that came with believing in Him.
Maria as a single mother raised her 4 children: Victor George (age 32), John Miguel (age 30) and his wife Diana, Jordan Alexander (age 16) and Isabella Hailey (age 12). Her parents Armenio and Maria P. Gomes, her siblings and their spouses: George and Sandra Gomes, and Armenio and Ulyana Gomes, her beloved grandson Sebastian Joao, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her joy for the Lord and loving embrace will forever be with her memory for she was ready for when He called her home.
Calling hours at Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Avenue, South River will be held Friday from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral services will take place Saturday 10 am at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Washington Monumental Cemetery in South River.
