Obituary for Luis Perez

Luis J. Perez, age 74, of Sayreville, NJ and Spencer, WV, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, June 28, 2021. Born in La Vega, Dominican Republic, Luis spent his childhood in the Dominican Republic, before moving to New York City where he lived for many years. Later he moved to Philadelphia, bought a farm in his beloved West Virginia and ultimately settled in Sayreville. Luis proudly joined the United States Marine Corps at 17 and fought alongside friends he still has today in the Vietnam War. Upon his return he became a jack of trades, owning a factory in New York City’s garment district, renovating homes in New York City and Philadelphia, selling real estate, owning a heating and cooling business, dabbling in roofing, farming and general contracting. What didn’t he do?! Luis was an avid coin collector who loved his family and friends and spent time showing them his love through acts of service and kindness. He never saved a penny because his joy came from the gifts he was able share with those he loved. He was no nonsense, sharp as a tack and full of advice, wanted or not for everyone he met. He was headstrong and even though he’d never admit he was ever wrong, to know him was to love him. Luis knew the importance of putting in good will with folks and he lived by those words until the end.

Luis is predeceased by his father Bolivar Perez and mother Brígida Perez. Surviving are his wife Lila Perez, his children Derek Perez, Elizabeth Luna and Helen Perez, Diana Rodgers; brother Jose Rafael Perez, Josephine Perez and Raquel Garcia; grandkids Carman Perez, Hanna Perez, Sydni Perez, Eliana Sanchez, Isabella Luna, Isaiah Luna, Nico Perez, Justin Perez, Devin and Dylan Rodgers; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and adored friends.

A memorial service will take place on Friday from 10am to 1pm at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin. Internment services will follow at the Marlboro Memorial Cemetery & Mausoleum, 361 Hwy 79, Morganville. A live stream of the Visitation can be viewed by clicking THIS LINK
