Obituary for Lorraine M. "Jasionowski" Alexander

South River
Lorraine M. Alexander (nee Jasionowski), age 87 of South River, passed away peacefully on April 22. Born on the family homestead in East Brunswick, she resided there until moving to South River when she married George Alexander in 1957. Lorraine graduated from South River High School in 1951. She attended Drake Business College and the New Jersey College for Women (Douglass College). She was employed as an executive secretary at Permacel in North Brunswick before choosing to stay home to raise her children. Lorraine and her husband owned Alexander Pharmacy in South River for ten years. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Lorraine was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary of Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church in South River. She served as Secretary for the Cook College Parents’ Association and was a member of the South River Seniors. Lorraine volunteered at the Middlesex County Fair for many years, where she assisted with the Arts and Crafts division. She enjoyed raising and being with her family, caring for her grandchildren, and celebrating many events in their lives. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, attending her senior group meetings, going on outings with friends, playing bingo and taking occasional trips to Atlantic City.

She was predeceased by her husband George J. Alexander in 2020, her parents Walenty and Marianna (Truskowski) Jasionowski, and her siblings Helen Roginski, Maryanna Jasionowski, Frances Mika, Dr. Edward Jasionowski, Benjamin Jasionowski, Florence Luteran, Claire Pilecki, and Ralph Jasionowski.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Karen Alexander, Dr. George Alexander and his wife Anita, and Kathleen Alexander; six grandchildren, Alexander, Jordan, and Jillian DiMeglio, Benjamin Knudson, Megan Alexander and her fiancé Sanchay Gupta, and Melissa Dean and her husband Jonathan; and great grandson Sebastian Dean. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Lorraine was warm, sweet, kind, gracious, and full of love and smiles, and she will be dearly missed.

Calling hours at Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave., South River will be held on Friday, April 30, from 7pm to 9pm. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, please note that masks must be worn at all times.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 9:00am at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church in South River. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in Jamesburg.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in Lorraine’s name be made to the St. Mary of Ostrabrama - Building Fund, St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
