Obituary for Joseph T. "Joe" Smith

Sayreville
Joseph T. “Joe” Smith, age 82, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, with his loving family at his side. Born in South Amboy to the late Joseph A. and Martha Lisiak Smith, Joe was a lifelong resident of the borough. After graduating from Vo-Tech High School in Perth Amboy, he enlisted in the US Army Reserves, raising in the ranks as high as Staff Sergeant. Before his retirement, Mr. Smith worked for the US Postal Service in Parlin as a mail carrier. Joe was a very active parishioner at Sacred Heart RC Church in South Amboy where he was an Usher and a Counter. Joe was also a member of the Holy Name Society, and was a Table Captain with the Sacred Heart Seniors and St. Vincent DePaul. He was also an active member of the Catholic War Veterans, Post 578. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and was an avid golfer and reader.

Joe is survived by his brother and sister-in-law James M. and Lois Ann (Delaney); his nieces, nephews and their spouses James E. and Chelsea Smith, Colleen Smith and Tom Gormley III, and Kevin and Kelsey Smith; and was Uncle JoJo to Jack and Amanda Smith, and Maeve Gormley.

Funeral services are scheduled for 8:30am on Wednesday from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with 9am Mass at Sacred Heart RC Church. Burial will immediately follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will take place on Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm. Despite COVID-19 regulations, 100 guests can be accommodated in the building at once. Masks must be worn at all times.
