Obituary for Joseph J Csordos

Joseph J. Csordos, age 93, of Sayreville passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the Menlo Park Veterans Home in Edison. Born in Woodbridge he had resided in Sayreville for the past 28 years. He was a proud US Army Air Corp Veteran serving during World War II. Before his retirement in 1981 Joseph was employed as a machinist for General Motors in Clark for 30 years.

Joe, or as some affectionately called him “Chuck,” will be remembered for the songs he used to sing to his grandchildren in Hungarian, especially Az a szép, his love of playing at the church BINGOS, recalling fond memories of dancing with his wife Elsie when they first met, and his devotion to his favorite teams: the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the St. Louis Cardinals. His favorite actor was John Wayne, he always enjoyed a good western, and his favorite holiday was Christmas, when he looked forward to tasting all the Hungarian specialties his family would make including cookies, cakes and “cabbage rolls.” Joe attended church regularly as a devout Catholic, and could be seen beaming with pride at his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s christenings and communions. Those who loved him knew the way to his heart was with an invitation to breakfast. He absolutely loved going out to diners for eggs, toast and coffee. And his thoughtfulness was legendary as he was prepared months ahead of upcoming birthdays and anniversaries, and always had a card ready to drop in the mail weeks before the actual date to be celebrated.

Born with an artistic spirit, Joe shared his passion for music with the world when he wrote an original song called Why must it end this way? which was copyrighted in 1952. He played the piano and enjoyed doodling, drawing and sketching.

He is predeceased by his parents Stephen and Katherine Csordos, his wife Elsie and his 9 siblings. Surviving are his children and their spouses Kathleen and Ken Karmazin of Parlin, Richard Csordos of Woodbridge and Karen and Rich Torok of Parlin, his grandchildren Jessica, Joseph, Katie, Richie & Ryan and great grandchildren Harrison, Evander, Annaliese, Sandy, Natalie, Lily and Richard and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at St. Stanislaus Kostka RC Church in Sayreville on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Mass. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery in Woodbridge.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4pm to 8pm. Masks are required while in the funeral home.
