Obituary for Joseph Slover

Joseph Slover, age 59 of Sayreville, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18 at his home, with is loving brother at his side. Born in South Amboy, he was a lifelong resident of Sayreville. Joe worked for Chevalier Enterprises is a young man before working for the New Jersey Department of Transportation as a truck driver and supervisor of supplies for over 15 years. Joseph was a caring son, brother, and friend.

He is predeceased by his parents John and Viola Slover and his beloved dog Sawyer. Surviving is his brother John Slover, his many cousins that he loved dearly and a large group of super friends.

Joe was an avid auto racing enthusiast. He enjoy all forms of motor sports as well as participating as a driver in many circuits. He loved going to NASCAR races in his camper with his friends. He developed an electric slot car racing league which emulated the real tracks and had weekly races for decades.

Joe was a true rock n roller having played in many bands such as Positive Force and Mother's Others. He appeared live on many occasions, playing in many venues. He amassed a huge record collection and listened to music constantly his whole life.

Joe loved the water as well. Salt or fresh, he loved being on a boat. He enjoyed fishing and crabbing and was a hunter as a teenager, going out frequently with his father and brother and cousin Donald

Joe also enjoyed video games, having a huge setup with all the systems and thousands of games. He loved the racing games and Madden football. He was a great, friendly guy who was very handy and a fine mechanic. He was always willing to help his family and friends, caring for his Mom all her life as Dad passed when he was only 25. He cared for his uncle and neighbor later in their lives as well.

There was nothing he loved more than his dog, Sawyer, a Jack Russell with human like characteristics. He took that dog everywhere and everyone loved him as well.

Joe had a kind heart and will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:15am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin, with a 11am funeral Mass at St Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church in Sayreville. Burial to follow at St Stan’s Cemetery, Sayreville.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Once scheduled a celebration of life will be posted to his webpage with a date and time. Please check back for an update.

You are invited to the 4th of July Spectacular/ Celebration of the Life of Joe Slover at my house on Monday, July 4th at 3:00. Featuring live music from electric Kevin & Kompany who will be playing a special night time set of Joe's favorite songs as we do a lighter in the air tribute. There will be a hanging of the Joe Slover Memorial Wind Chime. Chef Jack will be here preparing culinary favorites. DJ will be playing when the band breaks.There will be a fireworks display at night.
