Obituary for Joseph Cann

Joseph Robert Cann, aged 82, of Sayreville, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home. Born in Newark to the late Joseph and Catherine Cann, Joe and his devoted wife Anna made Sayreville their home since 1967.

Joe's life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his family and his home. He was a true handyman, a master of countless trades, and a self-taught craftsman. From plumbing to masonry, landscaping to remodeling, tiling, electrical work, and even crafting backyard chicken perches, there was no challenge he couldn't tackle. His home improvement skills were surpassed only by his love for his family.

Joseph is preceded in death by his beloved son, Tommy, but his memory lives on through those he leaves behind. He is survived by his cherished wife of 61 years, Anna, their children and their spouses: Robert and Diane Cann, Michael Cann, and Jennifer and Thomas Edwards. His legacy also includes his beloved grandchildren: Brian Cann and his wife, Kaylynn, Morgan and Danielle Cann, Aidan, Andrew, and Nolan Edwards. Joseph's brother, Richard, and his wife, Carole Cann, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of wonderful friends, share in the mourning of his loss.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the calling hours at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, located at 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin, on Friday from 3 pm to 7 pm. A prayer service will commence at 6 pm, providing an opportunity for all to come together in remembrance and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, honoring Joseph's spirit of caring for others even in his passing.
