Obituary for Joan A Daly (Mizzi)
JOAN (YVONNE) A. DALY
AGE: 93 ATLANTIC CITY
Joan Daly, age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4th 2022 at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus with her family at her side.
Born on the Mediterranean island of Malta, Yvonne came to the United States in 1938 at the age of 10, earned her U.S. citizenship and became known as Joan. She lived in the Bronx, NY, with her father, Anthony Mizzi, her mother Josephine and siblings, Charlie, Mary and Joe. Joan’s mother, Josephine, passed away soon after coming to the States, and following WWII, Joan’s father brought Josephine’s widowed sister Elsie and her three children Harriet, Gracie and Danny to the United States. He married Elsie and the extended family all lived in the Bronx.
Joan met Richard (Dick) Daly in the Bronx and following his service in the U.S. Army and their establishment in banking positions, they were married in New York City in 1949. They lived in Mount Vernon, NY and had their first child, Lawrence (Larry), in 1953. They moved to Bergen County, New Jersey and welcomed their second child, Stephen (Steve) in 1959. Shortly after they relocated to South Amboy, New Jersey and had two more children, JoAnn (Jo) and Raymond (Ray).
Joan held several positions in accounting roles at firms in New Jersey, and was very active in her church, St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church in Parlin. In addition to her profession, Joan was exceptionally skilled in sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Following the passing of her husband, Dick, Joan relocated to Atlantic City in 2010 to be closer to her daughter, JoAnn, and her two children, Simon and Jody. Joan was a cheerful resident of the Warwick for many years. She was an active member of St. Monica’s parish, and regularly attended Mass at St. Michael’s and St. Nicolas of Tolentine.
Surviving are her siblings and step siblings, Mary Hill, Joe Mizzi, and Danny Alessandro, children Larry and wife Terri of Davison, MI, Steve and life partner Rose Sarcona of Harriman, TN, JoAnn Daly-Wallace and husband Glenn of Atlantic City, NJ, Ray and wife Marianne of Richmond, VA, nine grandchildren, Ian Daly, Sean Daly, Jackson Daly, Dr. Kelly Daly, Eric Daly, Simon Hoffberger, Ryan Daly, Caitlin Daly and Jody Hoffberger, and two step grandchildren, James Wallace and Jaquline Giambona.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, May 9, 2022, from 9 am to 11 am at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin, with an 11:30 am mass at St. Bernadette's RC Church in Parlin. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sayreville.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - stjude.org.
