Obituary for Isabel Samaniego (Herrera)

Isabel Samaniego (Herrera), age 86, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Guano and then raised in Riobamba, Ecuador to the late Ruben and Teresa Herrera. She proudly graduated from college where she studied physical education. Even with her diminutive stature, she was an incredible basketball player, having previously played on various teams growing up. Isabel immigrated to New Jersey with her daughter in 1963 to join her husband and lived in Sayreville for the past 45 years, ever helping to raise her family and create a wonderful life. Before her retirement, Mrs. Samaniego worked as a supervisor with Pacon Manufacturers in Piscataway for over 20 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Isabel is predeceased by her beloved husband Francisco “Frank” Samaniego, and her brothers Pablo and Carlos Herrera. Surviving are her 4 loving children Susan Samaniego of Sayreville, Maria and her husband Luis Arroyo of Parlin, Annabel Samaniego of AZ, and Franky X. Samaniego; her dear grandchildren Luis Arroyo. Jr and fiancée Kathy of Marlton, David Michael Edwards of AZ, and Nicholas Dean Edwards of AZ; her sister Cecy Gonzalez of Ecuador; as well as many loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Calling hours will take place on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm at the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main Street, Sayreville with a prayer service scheduled for 4pm. A private cremation will follow. Entombment is scheduled at 11am on Tuesday, July 25 at Holy Cross Mausoleum in South Brunswick. All are welcome to attend.
