Obituary for Helen M Lagoda (Kuzdzal)

Helen M. Lagoda, age 94 of Red Oak, TX passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waxahachie, TX. Born in Sayreville she had resided there most of her life. She had retired to Florida for a number of years before moving to Texas with her daughter 5 years ago. Before her retirement in 1998 Helen and her husband were the owner of Lagoda’s Tavern on Broadway in South Amboy and previously owned taverns on Rt 9 in Melrose and on Main St in South River. Before owning taverns, she worked at both Brodsky & Sons in South River and Johnson & Johnson in North Brunswick. Helen enjoyed traveling with her husband and she loved to shop often. She will truly be missed by her dear family and friends.

She is predeceased by her parents John and Katherine Kuzdzal, her husband John Lagoda in 2004 and her sisters Florence Szawaryn, Adele Szeszko, and Joan Uhler. Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law’s Nancy and Raymond Szkodny of SC and Sandra and John Galletta of TX, her grandchildren Brian Szkodny and his wife Jean, Nicholas Szkodny, Alison Karl, Steven Schwarz and Dana Pelt and her husband Coby, her great grandchildren Emily, Steven, Trinity, Brooklyn, Evelyn, Michael, Jared, Chase, Cooper and Emma, her brother-in-law Gerald Uhler of NC, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10:15am Friday, August 6, 2021 from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Ln, Parlin with an 11am Mass at St Stanislaus Kostka RC Church in Sayreville. Burial will follow at St Stanislaus Cemetery in Sayreville.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, August 6, 2021 from 9 to 10:15am. Due to the spike in Covid 19 cases, the funeral home requires that all individuals wear a mask while in the building. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
