Obituary for George M Handy

George M. Handy, age 78 of South Amboy, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, with his loving family by his side. Born in Walnut Grove, Granville County, NC, he had lived in New Jersey for many years. Before his retirement, George worked as a machinist making die cast for tools. He was a proud US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He has been a loving partner, best friend and soul mate to his devoted wife Debra since 1969. The bond between them is truly something to be admired. Their love for each other is immeasurable and undeniably a story of true love and devotion.

When he was abled he loved fishing and loved bringing his family along. He did not mind packing up his kids or grandkids to go to the water as long as everyone could use the bathroom on their own they were welcomed with opened arms. Planning fishing trips on the boat bought him immense joy, it was truly his favorite thing. In addition to fishing his other most beloved past time was Horse Racing. Every Friday night for many years you would find him and his wife at the Meadowlands. This eventually transitioned to days at Freehold Race Track either outside enjoying the weather or inside in the "Billy Room". As his ability to walk worsened, he was still able to enjoy the races from home on the internet and TV. He also passed his love for gardening down to his son Kenneth and Granddaughter Egypt. He spent plenty of days in his garden with his tomatoes or Maters as he called them and his illustrious Apple Tree that stands so proudly in the yard.

He was and will forever be our hero, safe place and extreme example of LOVE.

He is predeceased by his parents William and Mimie Lee Handy and his siblings Catherine Blackwell, Geraldine Smith, William Bernard Handy, Virgil Leola Harris, and John Edward Handy.
