Obituary for Francelina Freire Tendeiro

Francelina Freire Tendeiro, age 88, of North Brunswick passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Born in Gafanha da Vagueira, Portugal, Francelina and her family immigrated to Brazil in 1957 and then to the U.S. in 1973, where she settled in South River. Francelina worked for Brodsky and Sons in South River and Fleischmann’s Bottling Company in Dayton.

Francelina is preceded in death by her parents, Joao Freire and Maria dos Anjos, her beloved husband Joao dos Santos Tendeiro, her son Joao F. Santos and wife Bernadine “Bernie”; and her siblings, Maria de Jesus Tendeiro, Rosa Doce, and Horacio Freire.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Vera and Carlos M. Santos, Horacio dos Santos Tendeiro and Ana Claudia, Luis dos Santos Tendeiro and Michelle; her grandchildren: Raquel, Rebecca, John, Jacqueline; Daniel, Michael, Nicholas; Gabriela; David, and Thomas, and her great grandchildren: Adriano, Naomi, Camila; Isaac, Corinne; Isabella, Michael, Vivienne; and Lilah, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Francelina was a devout member of the Portuguese Catholic community in South River with Corpus Christi Church, one of the founding members of the Legião de Maria, a member of the Irmandade de Fátima, a Lector, and CCD Teacher. She was a Eucharistic Minister who frequently visited the sick in their homes and hospitals. The extent of her reach to the community was profound. She touched the hearts of many with her love, caring, kind words and compassion. She has left an everlasting impression on those she came in contact with.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, December 29, 2023 from 4pm until 8pm at Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Avenue, South River.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 10am at Corpus Christi R. C. Church in South River. Burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Sayreville.
