Obituary

South Amboy
Ernest Charles Stair, Sr. of South Amboy peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at the age 83, at the Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge. Born in Havana, Cuba, Ernest moved to Brooklyn at 19-years old, with his younger sister Sarah in efforts to establish the family along with his two other siblings, Gloria and Harold. Soon thereafter, Ernest signed on and was a proud veteran of the US Army having served in Germany during the Vietnam War. At the conclusion of his service, Ernest returned to Brooklyn N.Y. where he graduated from the Pratt Institute of Technology in New York, married Dora Gonzalez and raised two children, Ernest Jr. and Karen. Ernest also played the trumpet for various Latin bands having played at major venues. As a child growing up in Cuba, Ernest had a deep passion for horses and baseball and transitioned that sports passion into coaching youth baseball in the New York City for over 15 years. Ernest was a tireless professional, having worked as various Marketing Managerial roles for major firms such as Essence Magazine, Univision, CBS, and ESPN. He eventually transitioned to the Tampa, Florida area for 10-years before retiring and settling down in South Amboy, New Jersey. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ernest is predeceased by his beloved wife Dora Stair and his parents Egbert and Flossie Stair. Surviving are his children and their spouses Ernest, Jr. and Charnise Carter-Stair of South Amboy; Karen Stair and Hugo V. Hodge of St. Thomas; his 3 grandchildren Shardé Petty, Rasheed McCleverty, Jr., and Christian Stair; his great-grandchildren Ariana and Aysia.
