Obituary for Edwin J Heck
Edwin J. Heck Ph.D., age 77 of Sayreville, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13th, his wife at his side. For the past 31 years Ed resided in the same house where he was born, a home built by his family. Before his retirement in 2003, he was employed for 40 years by the South River Board of Education as a High School English Teacher, Department Head and a K-12 Curriculum Supervisor. In his 50’s, Ed returned to college and received his Doctorate in English Literature from New York University. Ed Heck had a brilliant mind and a scathing wit, was an avid reader (and discusser) of Sci Fi, mysteries and literature. He also enjoyed teaching, writing, cooking (and eating!) and was a talented wood craftsman. Ed’s warmth and infectious laugh will be truly missed.
He is predeceased by his parents Edwin and Dorothy, his sister Dorothy DaSilva and his brother-in-law Jimmy Nevins. Surviving are his loving wife of 31 years, Geraldine Misiewicz, his children and their spouses Rebecca Heck and Andy Cannistra of Sleepy Hollow, NY and David and Robin Heck of Wilmington, NC his grandchildren, Amber, Linaé, Trystan and Lorelei, his sister Evelyn Nevins of Wyoming, his brother-in-law Joe DaSilva of Delaware and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 23rd from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main St, Sayreville with a Memorial service at 8pm. A private cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Edwin’s name to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.Stjude.org or to Shriners Hospitals for Children at www.shirinershospitalsforchildren.org.
