Obituary for Edward Strugala

Edward Strugala, age 80, passed away Saturday December 23, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in South Amboy to the late Frank and Valeria Strugala, Edward grew up in Sayreville before moving to South River and later Monroe with his adored wife Arlene.

Growing up, Edward’s family-owned Frank’s Market in Sayreville where he worked his first job. He later was a salesman for J.C. Penney in East Brunswick. Later, he was also a realtor with Century 21 Town & Country in East Brunswick. A lover of all things outdoors, Edward was an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter, and bird-watcher. Edward didn’t just have a sweet tooth for nature, he loved sweets, especially chocolate. Above all, Edward loved spending time with his family. He could make a friend anywhere he went. People truly enjoyed his presence.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Valeria Strugala, and his brother Frank Strugala, Jr. Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, Arlene Strugala, his daughter Laureen and husband Mark Smykaj, and his granddaughter Brielle and her husband Andrew Uszenski.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4pm until 8pm at the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Avenue. A 9:30 am funeral Mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church in Sayreville. A private cremation will follow. A burial will take place at a later date.
