Edmund J. Paczkowski, 78, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Born in South Amboy, NJ in 1937 to the late Frank and Helen (Zyskowski) Paczkowski, Ed was a lifelong resident of South Amboy. He entered the family business; Frank’s Market while in the fourth grade and worked on his family’s farm. He was owner and operator of South Amboy Foodtown until his retirement in 2012.

Surviving is the love of his life, his wife Judy and their children and spouses: Edmund, Jr., Lynn & Anthony Ascione, Frank, Judy & Greg McCabe, JoEllen & Don Sofilkanich, Gregory & Diana. Ed was predeceased by his son Jerry in 1983. The pride and joy of Ed’s life, were his 10 grandchildren, Anthony, Josie, Frankie, Brayden Jack, Erin, Emily, Ashley, Taylor and Brooke, Baby Boy due to arrive next month, and sister-in-law Joan Golaszewski.

Also surviving are his brothers and sister and their spouses, Frank, Raymond & Ella, John &Theodora, Stanley & Marge and Helen & Warren Eberle. In addition, his cousins and many nieces and nephews. Ed always found comfort and enjoyed the camaraderie of his many lifelong friends.

Ed was a vibrant member of the South Amboy Community. He was an active Communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Polish Choir, The Holy Name Society, Cardinal McCarrick High School Advisory Board, St. Mary’s Hall of Fame Committee, past president & treasurer of Frog Hollow Swim and Tennis Club, served on the Foodtown Board, the Twin County Grocers Board, South Amboy Trust Company Board, Sacred Heart Mom and Dad’s Club and St. Mary’s Eagles Athletic Association. He was named Citizen of the Year for 1990 in South Amboy, Chamber of Commerce Business Man of the Year – 2002, the Pete Kenny Irish American Association Business Man of the Year – 2005 and the Middlesex County Grand Marshall of the 2007 Pulaski Day Parade held in New York City.

Ed was an avid train hobbyist, enjoyed playing basketball and especially fond of his days when he played on the Monmouth College Basketball team in the late 1950’s. Ed was active in CYO and coached 13 years of 6th Grade basketball. Ed took pleasure in venturing to Atlantic City with the Senior Citizens and loved to work outside in the yard. Nothing in this world meant more to him than his family. He was proud of their accomplishments and was always there to support them. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 8:30am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin followed by a 9am mass at Sacred Heart R. C. Church in South Amboy with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Tuesday from 4pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Ed’s name be made to Sacred Heart R.C.
