Obituary for Dorothea A Schlegel (Skevington)

Dorothea Skevington Schlegel (“Dot”), of East Brunswick, was born in 1923 and died on February 19, 2023.She was born and raised in South River and graduated from Douglass College, Rutgers University. Dot taught children with learning disabilities during most of her twenty years at Bowne-Munro School in East Brunswick. She lived in East Brunswick for more than 70 years in a house built by her husband, Clarence Schlegel (“Ozzie”) who died in 1999. She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Dorothea Skevington, and by her three brothers, Ross, Raymond and Richard. She is survived by her two sons, Richard Schlegel of Rockville, Maryland and his wife, Susan, and Robert Schlegel of Newton, Massachusetts and his wife, Jan Fogel. In addition, she leaves five grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer, Kimberly, Dana and Sarah, and six great grandchildren, Keary, Laena, Nolan, Griffin, Clarke, and Alena. She is also survived by six nephews and nieces. Her life was rich with the love of her family and friends. We are grateful to have had her with us for so many years.

We will gather at Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave., South River, at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 25th, to celebrate her life, followed by burial at New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin,
