Obituary for Dorothea E. Popow (Spillman)
South River
Dorothea Spillmann Popow of South River, NJ, passed away on December 21st, 2022 at the age of 85. She was a wonderful, generous, loving mother, friend, and Omi.
Born in Schleisian Germany, and raised in East Germany, she immigrated to Indiana at 16 years old and eventually came to New Brunswick and South River, NJ. Upon coming to NJ, Dorothea cleaned doctor’s offices, worked at the South River Coat Company, and worked as a Deisenbury operator at Schweitzer / Kimberly Clark until her retirement.
She is predeceased by her husband, Mykola Popow in 1979. Dorothea is survived by her daughter, Rozi Mudry, and her husband Chris, and their son Alex as well as her son Mykola “Nick” Popow, his wife Benedetta and their son Andrew. In Germany, her brother Rudolf, her Goddaughter Gabbi, Frank and family. As well as many loving family members and dear friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30am on Tuesday from the M.A. Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Avenue, South River with 10am Mass at St. Stephen’s RC Church. Burial will follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will take place on Monday from 2pm to 6pm.
