Parlin
Charles Steffens, age 91 of the Parlin section of Sayreville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at his home. Born in Jersey City, Charles has resided in Sayreville since 1954 where he was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Charles served in the US Army Air Force in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He flew 50 combat missions as a B-17 Tail Gunner out of Foggia, Italy and Poltava, Ukraine. During his time in the service, Charles was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Eame Campaign and the WWII Victory Medal.

Mr. Steffens was a member and past master of St. Stephen Lodge #63 F&AM, in South Amboy, Lafayette Chapter Ram, in Union, Scottish Rite, in Bordentown, Crescent Temple Shrine, in Westhampton, American Legion Post 211, in Sayreville, 99th Bomb Group Historical Society, Mercer Chapter Air Force Association and was a volunteer at Lyons Hospital with the purple heart coffee wagon over the past 10 years.

Charles is predeceased by Marguerite, his wife of over 60 years in 2006, his son William in 2015 and his son-in-law Dale Mosher in 2015. Surviving are his daughters Nancy Brown of Rosenberg, Texas, Susan Thierry of South Amboy and Alice Steffens of South Amboy, daughter in-law Mercedes of Cape Coral, Florida, 9 grandchildren, Heather Garcia and her husband Thomas of Freehold, Benjamin Steffens and his wife Abigail of Atlantic Beach, Florida, Aaron Brown and his wife Julie of Richmond, Texas, Timothy Brown and his wife Suzanne of Bacliff, Texas, Jessica Steglich and her husband Joshua of Houston, Texas, Katelyn Meyer of Tinton Falls, Lauren Meyer of Woodbridge, Justin Steffens of South Amboy, Leah Mosher of Olympia, Washington, his 7 great grandchildren, Meadow and Rowan Brown, Nabiah, Elias and Kai Steffens, Savannah and Skyler Garcia and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 2pm to 6pm with a 4:30pm funeral service and 3pm military honors at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home located at 15 Cherry Lane in Parlin followed by private cremation. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Sayreville.
