Obituary for Antoinette R Skarzynski

Antoinette R. Skarzynski
Old Bridge - July 12, 1925 - October 6, 2023

Antoinette R. (Toni) Skarzynski, an original resident of Madison Park, died peacefully under hospice care at Hackensack/Meridian Medical Center in Old Bridge, NJ, on Friday, October 6, 2023, at the advanced age of 98 years. She was predeceased in 1985 by her loving husband of 37 years, Henry Skarzynski.

Toni was born in Jersey City, NJ, in 1925, to Regina and Stanley Greffkowicz. She spent her formative years as the youngest of four sisters (Julia, Marie, Stella), all of whom are now sadly gone. After graduating from Ferris High School as valedictorian, Toni worked In New York City as an executive secretary, prior to and during her early marriage. She resumed work after her youngest child Carol started school. She retired at age 66 from the Old Bridge Municipal Water Authority as secretary to the Director.

Toni had many skills and talents, took pride in her home, and loved "gallivanting", driving to the many restaurants and stores in her area, usually just to browse. She enjoyed more long-distance travel with her family down the length of the West Coast. She spoke of a memorable vacation with her daughter Carol and son-in-law Albert to Lake George years ago, where they rented a boat and she speeded around with them despite the fact that she never learned to swim. She visited the various homes of her children and grandchildren happily over the years, presiding as the matriarch at every family gathering or event.

Toni's family was her pride and joy and sustained her to the end. She is survived by her loving family: children Henry (Michael Crespo), Joseph (Clementine Abatemarco), Carol (Albert Flynn); grandchildren Thomas (Katelyn Padden), Joseph, and Maria Skarzynski, and Kellie Maas (Aaron Maas), and great-grandchildren Hazel and Miles Maas, and James Henry Skarzynski. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Irene Daley, and her devoted care-giver of the last l ½ years, Xatuna (Kate) Svanishvili. Toni was a mainstay in her neighborhood and will be missed by many loving neighbors and friends. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Bernadette's RC Church.

She will be sorely missed but will remain always in our hearts.
